Ah .... rain. finally. Flowers seem to pop out of the ground overnight and grow six inches.
Now we hope it doesn't snow again. Because this is western New York!
We have put in the soil more than 4000 onions plants and 1200 leek plants.
Also a hundred onion bulbs and four pounds of shallots.
Transplanted 10 flats of Kale. We have three types of Kale, Blue Scotch curly leaf, Winterbor, Redbor which is a red curly leaf, and Dinosaur which is a dark green bumpy leaf. That's more than 400 kale plants.
Also transplanted are flats of lettuce: buttercrunch, oak leaf, and red sails.
Growing from seed under row covers are spinach and radish, mizuna, mustard, aragula, & bok choi.
Also, beds have been seeded with Swiss Chard and Beets.
Finally we got the Eggplants to germinate well. Four new flats of eggplant, along with four flats previous, are under lights in the starting room. Also there are 400 sweet pepper plants, 400 tomato plants, 50 cherry toms, and at least 50 hot peppers. Also four flats of basil.
The Greenhouse is still jam packed. Flats are full of cabbage, broccoli, broccoli raab, lettuce, chinese cabbage, bok choi, onions, endive, brussels sprouts, kohlrabi, cauliflower.
We planted two 200 foot rows of peas. One on the lower garden which are snow peas. They have come up and are growing. The other snap peas. The first planting didn't come up at all. We replanted a second time and they are coming up sporadically. We don't know why yet. The soil may be just different enough. The lower garden is years older than the upper garden.
Look like the weather will be great for the garden this week. So more transplanting! And seeding!
Oh yes, eight flats of cucumbers in the germination box, with more coming this week, along with squash and melons.
ALSO please don't bring plastic bags to us. WE thank you for your thoughtfulness but we do not like the plastic bags. We are looking for a place to get half bushel baskets which we will distribute to you all for using this year. That way we can stop the ugly plastic mess. And you can have the half bushel basket to bring to distributions.
Thank you all. And please forgive the bad English language writing. We're not good at writing yet!
